Biodetic was first developed over 20 years ago for a diabetic patient with extreme xeroderma and heel fissures. It has been commercially available since 1990. Since 2009, it is the cream of choice for the patients of IDHC (Indigenous Diabetic Health Circle) and is included in their diabetic resource kits. Biodetic in unscented and dye free. There is no lanolin, so any one sensitive to wool can use this product. It contains no urea, making it safe for those allergic to urea. It contains no parabens or other synthetic preservatives. The unique combination of glycerin and castor oil act as a preservative.
Moreover, Biodetic has no petroleum-based ingredients (i.e. petrolatum). Thus, fibres of compression stockings are not affected. All of the above attributes make Biodetic extremely hypoallergenic and favorable for sensitive skin. Biodetic can also be used on hands and on the skin of flexural areas such as elbows and knees. It is not recommended for the face, as it maybe comedogenic. Many skin products require the treated areas to be washed and patted dry to a point where a thin film of water exists on the skin. This allows those products to trap moisture in, in order to be effective. Biodetic requires no surface water, and in fact the drier the skin, the more effective it is.
