Our Origin

Biodetic was first developed over 20 years ago for a diabetic patient with extreme xeroderma and heel fissures. It has been commercially available since 1990. Since 2009, it is the cream of choice for the patients of IDHC (Indigenous Diabetic Health Circle) and is included in their diabetic resource kits. Biodetic is unscented and dye free. There is no lanolin, so any one sensitive to wool can use this product. It contains no urea, making it safe for those allergic to urea. It contains no parabens or other synthetic preservatives. The unique combination of glycerin and castor oil act as a preservative.

Moreover, Biodetic has no petroleum-based ingredients (i.e. petrolatum). Thus, fibres of compression stockings are not affected. All of the above attributes make Biodetic extremely hypoallergenic and favourable for sensitive skin. Biodetic can also be used on hands and on the skin of flexural areas such as elbows and knees. It is not recommended for the face, as it maybe acne forming.

Many skin products require the treated areas to be washed and patted dry to a point where a thin film of water exists on the skin. This allows those products to trap moisture in, for them to be effective. Biodetic requires no surface water, and in fact the drier the skin, the more effective it is.

Our Ingredients

The main ingredients of Biodetic are:

  • Glycerin
  • Purified water
  • Castor seed oil

  • The other components are at minor concentrations and they are:
  • Emulsifying wax NF
  • Fractionated coconut oil
  • Stearyl heptanoate

All ingredients are classified by Health Canada and the FDA as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe).
Glycerin acts as a humectant/emollient. Glycerin is produced by saponification of plant fats.  Eg.as a by-product of soap making. It is used by people with sensitive/easily irritated skin. It draws moisture up through skin layers and slows or prevents excessive drying and evaporation.

Emulsifying Wax NF
Emulsifying wax NF is a mixture derived from plant waxes and delivers time released hydration and acts as a barrier, preventing evaporation and drying.

Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed Oil)
Castor seed oil penetrates, due to its low molecular mass, into the stratum corneum, thus acting as a moisturizer/lubricant/barrier. And because of its high content of ricinoleic acid, castor seed oil has anti-bacterial properties.

Capric Triglyceride (Fractionated Coconut Oil)
Fractionated coconut oil is excellent as a skin moisturizer/softener.

Stearyl Heptanoate
Stearyl heptanoate is used as a skin emollient/occlusive.  It is derived from sperm whale oil and castor oil. It gives a silky but non-oily skin feel.

As a person who works on the grass roots level travelling into communities to service many people. I make it a priority to give my clients the best products they need. Within the years of providing my clients with Land Pharmaceuticals’ Biodetic Foot Care Cream, I have only heard good reviews and have experienced multiple requests from communities across Ontario for more cream. Within my ongoing foot care clinics my service providers prefer to use the Biodetic Foot Care Cream on their clients over other leading creams on local store shelves.
